The royal family.. was a respected one. Well, why shouldn't they be? Their family had ruled the kingdom for generations, and in all around peace, as well. While there were typical problems, such as peasants losing their lands, for the sake of more farming ground, the majority of the people of Heath kingdom were content. It was large, inhabited primarily by those of the human variety. The King himself, was already in his mid-forties, and had already sired two children by his wife, the Queen. The Queen herself was not from the area, but rather, had been a Princess who married into the family, as often it happened. Their two children, a daughter and son, were of varying ages. The oldest child, a boy, was of the tender age of ten years old. He was expected to be the next ruler, and already displayed quite a bit of intelligent. Surely a blessing. The second child, the younger child, was the female, at the tender age of seven, she went by the name of Julia. While Julia still didn't quite portray the cunning and intelligence of her older sibling, it was already well-renowned that the young lady took much after her mother in appearance, her features soft, as was her voice, and personality. If her brother succeeded, she would likely be married off into another family when she was of age, if only to better relations with another kingdom. None the less, she was a prize, feminine and beautiful, with a kindness that could hardly be matched. While her brother was given freedom, and even spoiled, Julia herself was resigned to their castle, kept inside to preserve the delicate flower of a young lady.

Not many had ever seen her face, but rumors had spread quickly about her fairer features.

Julia was not allowed outside of their estate, their kingdom. A large castle was her primary dwelling, although the large garden within its courtyard, and even the stables, were a place she often ventured. preferably alone, so that her over protective parents were never aware of her ventures. She was young, and so, easily amused. Be it by playing with, talking to the horses, or sitting amongst flowers and watching the insects and bugs flutter by, Julia always seemed fairly.. happy. Unbeknown to her, of course, there was a war waging. Ever since the tender age of five, a war had been waging. Bloody battles stole men's lives, and she received no answers when she inquired about the Knights who would leave and never returns. She often depended on these men for excitement, listening quietly, with big, blue eyes, as they retold their tales of adventure, both in youth, and adulthood.

But she wasn't concerned about that, that very moment. A soft sigh was drawn from the fare-skinned girl's lips, her blue and white dress casual, although elegant by anybody but a Princess' standards. With so many of the Knights gone from even their quarters, which were set in part against the castle she lived in, Julia found some convenience. She could explore, wander to the stables, garden, and even further. The light-haired child had been becoming more daring, nearing the exit of their estate, nearing the city, and the wilderness not too far off, on the other side. Julia couldn't help but wonder, ponder, about what animals lived there. Which was what she was doing now.

She adjusted the skirt of her dress, taking a seat upon a small bench, facing the large open plains, which seemed to end with forest after miles. The scene was beautiful in the early afternoon, and with her mother nowhere in sight, and the comforting neighing of nearby horses in the stables, Julia relaxed, continuing to watch the rather wonderful scenery, the seven year old's hair done neatly.

He had traveled a long way from the battlefield. The young knight, eighteen when he left for battle and now nineteen, was no coward. His name was Remus, it was the only name anyone had ever known him by. The young man struggled through the forest, knowing he was near the castle now. He had to get a message to the royal family, he had been sent here by one of the stronger knights to tell the kind that their forces were winning, but they would need more men. Even though they were winning the war, people were dying, quickly and they needed more men to go out into the battlefield.

Remus panted as he dragged his feet over the forest ground before coming into some sort of plain. He was light headed and held his head. He felt ill. He was wounded, but he hadn't realized with the distance he had to walk, he was losing a lot of blood and constantly reopening the horrid wound. He took in a ragged breath before feeling hot tears fall from his eyes. It wasn't manly to cry, but he did it all the same. There was no one around to see the pain he was in. Though as he some how managed to drag himself through the field to the castle, he started to see an image. A small little angel.

He must have died.

Remus smiled faintly as his tears dried. He lost track of time and distance as he walked, kneeling down once he was close enough to the small little angel. How amazing. He had wished he hadn't seen one so early. He felt like he hadn't lived his life yet. He clutched his chest before he bowed before the little angel. "Please, take pity on me angel," the delusional man murmured before he felt everything disappear and he passed out. Remus now only aware of the darkness his mind wrapped around him.

If this was death, then so be it. At least it wasn't painful. He was numb, but he felt no pain any more. Though he had no idea he was simply lost consciousness. Remus had always had a wild imagination. Had it been any other man they may have thought they were dying at first, but then come to realize they weren't.

"Little Angel"? Well, it certainly was a peculiar thing to call any girl, in seriousness. But for a man who was badly injured, it was somehow understandable. Why he'd not been given a horse to ride back upon, Julia couldn't know. All she knew was that he was injured, and that if he didn't receive some form of treatment soon, he would perish. Bright eyes widened as she saw the form of a man approaching. His gear, his, well, appearance. Was he a knight? Was that where the Knights were going? A place to come back injured and on the verge of death? The fact that he kneeled, even in such a poor shape, struck the youthful princess as somewhat.. ridiculous. He needed to lay down! Not bow! Julia slipped from the bench.

He fell unconscious, leaving a very flabbergasted, and confused young Princess to look over his broken and battered body. She had little idea where the injury was, and in fact could only brush his heated face. Luckily, for both Remus and Julia, they had noticed the wounded soldier's approach - the castle's sentries. And within minutes, Remus was being carried in on a gurney of sorts, carried by four men, with a little Princess following along.

Remus was undressed, his wounds cleaned and bandaged. It seemed that, when cleaned and properly bandaged, Remus was wrenched from the hands of death, his chances of survival much better. At least with proper bed rest. News spread through the castle of the messenger's arrival, and all were eager for the time when he would wake from his blood-loss-induced slumber. Of course, Julia herself, cared not for messages. And as soon as the maids and castle doctor had let him be, she slipped into the room, quietly shushing the nearby guards. There was no harm, right?

Remus was nude, bandaged, and otherwise covered only by a thin blanket. He was set in a bed, a pot of water with a bloody rag at its foot. But that was of little interest to her. Julia approached, leaning over, brushing his face, much as she had when he arrived.

Who could have done this to him?

Remus had slipped in and out of the waking world several times throughout the whole situation. He groaned softly as he opened his eyes when he felt her hand. He knew now he wasn't dead, nor was he dying. He felt horrible though. He looked at the young princess and smile. She was beautiful. There was no doubt in his mind that he loved the lovely creature already.

He was not from her world though. His experienced, and aged eyes looking into her pure and innocent eyes. How could he have done this to her? So precious, so young. He exposed her to the truth of the war, something such a fair maiden didn't need to experience. He tried to recall why he had walked up to the castle. It took him a moment to recall an ambush on the way back to the castle, his horse being slaughtered, and the man barely escaped with his life.

The man raised a hand moving it to touch the little angel. "May I touch you?" he asked, he was sure to be respectful and added 'princess' after a second. She had questions for him, he was sure of it. There was no way the small girl would witness such an event and not want answers. He was obliged to answer them too. She was royalty. He could not refuse her unless her parents came and forbid him to speak the truth to her.

Even if that happened he was sure he wouldn't be able to lie to her.

She was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen, and he suddenly felt his heart ached. He wanted to keep her here. He wanted to protect her and save her from any bad things the world threw at her. He had never felt this way before, especially not for such a young girl. He tried to shake the thoughts from his head but it wasn't working.

Julia remained close. Every pained noise he gave as he fell in and out of the world of consciousness and reality tugged at her heart. She'd seen part of his wounds when they first began to tear away his armor. It filled her with sadness. How could men do this? She'd been told ever since she was little that war was an honorable way to fight, to die. Yet seeing that man on the verge of death, soaked in blood, it was just terrible! No war, no patch of land was worth all of that bloodshed. At least to the naive little Princess, not yet accustomed to the brutal truth of the world. Everything was not a life of simplicities, of looking pretty and speaking kindly, blindly assuming that the world outside of your own home was perfect.

As Remus awoke, the Princess seemed to realize he was stirring. With her head briefly lowered to his chest, a soft nod was given in response, allowing the injured Knight to touch her as he pleased. No longer were his limbs bound and held down by armor, and while certainly sore, his life was indeed near guaranteed to continue. Remus was wise to assume the small girl had questions. Unaware of his feelings, the small princess leaned forward, blinking several times as she looked him over.

"Were you with.. all of the other knights, sir? Is.. is that where they have gone? To die? What happened to cause these.. these cuts."

Well, they were more than simple cuts. Varying from cuts to gashes to scrapes, Remus had a multitude of injuries. But also, a small princess pining over him, concerned for his condition. Delicate digits slid the blanket down, so that it now covered his stomach. She was allowed to brush those same fingers against the bandages wrapping around his chest, careful about the pressure she applied, not wishing to cause him anymore discomfort.

Remus nodded lightly to the princess' question. He ran a hand over her cheek and smiled faintly. "We don't go to die, my beautiful princess. We go to fight for what is ours. If we didn't fight they might invade our land and harm our families. It is a worthy cause," he whispered as he watched her.

He was uneasy when she slid the blanket down. He knew she was innocent but he thought it best to make sure she didn't see anything her precious eyes would be tainted by. She had to remain pure for the man that became her husband. How unfair for him. He could feel himself growing a little excited from the young girl's touches. He had to think of the death and pain to try and get rid of any potential evidence of his impure thoughts.

"Princess, you don't need to worry about us. We do what we must to make sure our families are safe. It is great to see you care so much, but remember, we know what we're getting ourselves into." The man smiled faintly before placing a hand on the princess' small back.

Had he not been injured, he would have scooped up the little girl and ran away with her. She was more then he had ever wanted. He groaned lightly when he felt his head start the throb, he hadn't realized how sore his body was until he thought about moving. Hopefully his groan wouldn't upset her, though he was sure it would.

His reason seemed to make a bit more sense than what Julia had initially assumed. Yet, it was still had to believe. Who would invade them? Who would willingly bring their men to death? The thought of such things was frightening. Her father and mother had wanted their child to stay blind to the nature of this war, but it had all gone out the window, their plan, when the injure soldier had arrived. Her skin was soft, warm, beneath his touch. And the princess gently leaned into his fingers. Luckily for the male, and her "pure, precious" eyes, Julia didn't pull the blanket down any further. Her mother would have scolded her harshly for looking at, well, what made a man, a man.

"But.. there should be other ways. I don't want people to die."

She was stubborn in her belief. The men she had known all her life. They were disappearing to go fight for their kingdom. To die. It was like losing a friend, or maybe even an older brother. For a girl who had spent all of her life cooped up within a castle, such men were precious, and Julia truly seemed upset by the concept of them dying, no matter what the reason. Her fingers had ceased their exploration, and when the injured male groaned, it indeed caught her attention. Leaning over, she raised a thin brow.

"Your head hurts? Or somewhere else?"

Julia questioned softly, leaning over to plant a delicate, innocent kiss to his temple.

"Maybe you should sleep?"

"There may be other ways," he told her, "but so far, this is the best we can do. We don't know how else to reason with them." The knight smiled as he watched her. She was stubborn and beautiful, but it was hard to tell her that war was the only way. Reasoning hadn't worked, this was the real world, where everything was difficult and reasoning scarcely worked.

The man sighed and nodded. "It's just my head. It'll pass," he whispered before a light blush came to the man's cheeks when the princess kissed his forehead. How lucky he was! This wonderful girl blessed him with such a simple and sweet act. He felt himself getting excited again and was forced to think of the fighting and blood, death, just so he wouldn't show the princess how impure his thoughts were.

He needed to tell the king about the need for more men in battle. They would lose if he didn't give them the word. He knew he himself could not return to battle, his wounds needed time to heal, if he went back now it was suicide. Perhaps he could ask the King to watch over the lovely princess to ensure she wasn't exposed to the harsh realities again. He had exposed her to part of the war, he felt responsible now.

He wanted to pull her close and hold her, tell her not to worry about him or the world outside. He however simply nodded when she brought up sleep. "Sleep may be a good idea. But I need to speak to your father before I rest. It's rather important, the reason I came here actually."

Julia couldn't help her stubborn personality, in a situation like this. She couldn't accept the idea of mass human sacrifice! War was brutal, she had read about it. Swords, arrows, strategies, horses. All were frightening, in some way, during war. The young Princess hadn't thought much of her given kiss, figuring it only a means of helping the knight with "impure thoughts" feel better. Her knowledge of medicine was limited, after all. It was really the only thing Julia could offer, as far as relief went. And luckily for Remus, she hadn't noticed any sort of "excitement" down below. Not that she understood the opposite gender THAT much.

"My.. my father?"

So, he was a messenger, then? If his message would help to end the war sooner, she would certainly help. The young Princess stood, gently smoothing out the crumpled and slightly wrinkled folds of her dress. She carefully grasped the blanket, pulling it up to its original position. And noting how her attendants liked to tuck her in to make her feel safer at night, the little Princess even went so far as to tuck the knight in.

"Alright. I'll go get my father. Then you can rest."

And with a soft nod, the Princess was off, returning nearly half an hour later with the King and his guards leading the way, back to the room Remus was situated in.

"My king," Remus said calmly when the man came into the room. Any thought of taking the princess into his arms vanished when the man entered the room. He didn't waste any time in telling the king about the war, and how they needed more men. They didn't need too many more, but if they got none, they wouldn't be winning for long.

Once he completed his task he let out a small sigh. "I must ask, my lord. If it isn't too much to ask... May I guard your daughter. I know I have exposed her to the war, and it isn't something I'm proud of. I want to protect her from any more evils of the world. I may not be able to return to war, but I can certainly protect your daughter."

He hoped the man would say it was fine. Perhaps the king would have pity on Remus. A knight who could not fight in a war was a sad sight indeed. If he could protect the princess, it would give him something to live for.

Remus knew if he was denied this chance, he would take her away once he was better, or kill himself. It would ultimately be a difficult choice. For he was sure she would hate him if he kidnapped her.

Perhaps Remus was proof of the saying, love at first sight? Even if the Princess was too young to know much about [i]that[/] sort of love, it wasn't to say her ever returning such feelings was impossible. As her father entered, young Julia remained outside, waiting quietly for the message to be given, and for any other business to be wrapped up. She was a patient girl, leaning against the wall, slowly twiddling her fingers as she thought. Her thoughts were all upon the nameless Knight. It was her first time seeing a man in such bad shape.. how could she not be filled with concern?!

In the room, the King quietly accepted the message, relaying the message to yet another who stood just outside the door, he sent him to gather more troops, and send them to the correct coordinates. The request, of course, caught the King by surprise. Julia surely didn't need too much physical protection. She was, after all, often within their castle. Yet, the king did indeed take pity on the broken Knight, and obliged the male's request with a nod. He was soon gone, giving a maid orders to bring the male supper in a short while. It was only when the room was once again empty, save for Remus himself, that Julia entered, filled with curiosity.

"What happened?"

She inquired softly, approaching the bed.

Remus smiled as he looked at the princess. "I'm going to be your personal guard. Though I'd rather be considered your friend," he told the young guard. He didn't want to tell her that more men would be going to the battlefield and probably die. sure there would be some that came back, but it would never be enough to please the little flower.

He sat up slowly, though it was somewhat painful, he preferred to sit up so he didn't feel so helpless or look helpless. He wanted this young princess to see that he was a strong man. "Princess, why don't you sit with me and enjoy some time with me? I'll answer any question you have. I promise you that. I would love to pass my knowledge onto you so that you can be happy.

He was certain that he was lying but he didn't know what else he could say. She was beautiful, that was no lie. But could he truly tell her about the harsh world that surrounded her and the harm that could potentially come after her if they ever lost a war?

He was lost in thought as he moved a hand over to her, touching her small frame and stroking her side absently. He pulled his hand away when he realized what he was doing and he apologized, though he hoped she didn't realize why he was apologizing. It wasn't proper for a knight to touch such royalty.

Of course, Julia had already allowed the injured messenger to touch her before. Even she seemed surprised by the news - that he would be her personal guard. In truth, there had never been such a person with that title. Perhaps something similar, temporary, in the case where she played outside. But they would simply watch from afar. It was part of a sentry's job. But a person dedicated to protecting her, when he wasn't in the greatest shape, himself? It occurred to her as slightly silly, but when he said he'd rather be a friend, Julia's lips tugged into a small smile. The light-haired royal seemed to enjoy that title much more. And she had never had a "true" friend. She didn't know any children her own age.

"Yes, let's be friends."

Julia put up no fuss over his request, and sat besides the night, quirking a small brow as he sat up. She wondered if it was painful, but decided to leave the issue be. Julia said nothing concerning his touching, although shook her small head as he apologized. There was no need, and, being just a child, she didn't really understand, or strictly follow such guidelines.

"Its alright."

The youth assured with a smile, leaning closer.

"Do you know when you'll feel better enough to walk around?"

That was a good question. When would he be good enough to walk around. He thought for a moment. Now that he had been bandaged and allowed to rest, he felt much better. He was sure that once he had some food he would be well enough to walk. Though he doubted he could do much else.

"After I eat," he responded as he looked at the beauty. "I know it looks bad, but it really isn't. I've just been tired, and haven't eaten for a while," he told her. He ran a hand through his hair, before his eyes wandered over the princess' beautiful body. She would be a fine woman one day, but for now, she was a beautiful girl.

"Princess, have I told you how beautiful you are?" he wondered if she heard it often. He knew there was a lot of focus on her family, not so much on her. With everything that had been going on lately, he felt a little bad for her. Had she been ignored because of the war they were fighting in? Did anyone tell her how beautiful she was?

The knight smiled at the foolish thoughts that ran through his mind. she must have heard it often. Perhaps from servants and other knights. After all, they needed to be polite to the young girl. Surely if someone upset the young girl she could cry to her father and have them swiftly executed. Not that she looked the type to do it on purpose.

Indeed, the focus wasn't so much on their young daughter. At least, in the way it had at one time been. What was important? Protecting and training the prince. Making deals to work with the war. Arranging battles, while the Queen and King attempted to bear more children. While many would think that Julia was forgotten, in some manner, it was far from the case. There was.. a "last-ditch" effort, so to speak. Their enemy was led by a widowed king. He also had a number of sons, as he himself was an older man. The idea of offering Julia as a living memento of peace - as a bride, had come up. Although, as of yet, she was oblivious, and no such plans were as of yet solid. The fighting was still going on, after all. And according to Remus, it was going quite well, at that.

"Oh, that's good."

Julia sighed, her soft voice letting her relief be known. She had not seen many battle injuries before, and when Remus had collapsed, well, she had only considered the worst. Nonetheless, once he ate, and perhaps got a night's rest, it seemed both were hopeful of his being able to walk. Even if it required a cane, or, he limped a bit. She was tempted to peak at his wounds, once again. But as some were.. lower, Julia decided against it. having to redress those wounds wouldn't be much fun, anyways. Staring at his abdomen, Julia seemed rather.. surprised by the compliment. A soft smile graced the young girl's lips. Julia had been taught to be a modest, proper little lady. And while servants and Knights did indeed remark on her beauty, their words didn't seem quite as special as Remus'. Her pale cheeks became rosy, although she didn't seem to notice.

"I'm not sure."

Julia's smile remained, as she gave a playful shake of her head before leaning closer.

"Have I.. told you how brave you are?"

Well, it was certainly true. He was a man who came from war. She herself found it foolish, in a way. Scary, intimidating. Yet, to face death, for the sake of somebody you knew, somebody you didn't know.. Well, that was certainly bravery. All alone, the young Princess seemed to disregard the norms, wrapping slender arms around his neck, hugging Remus carefully, as to not aggrivate his wounds. Yet her small chest brushed his.

"I've never seen a Knight out of his armor. You're..."

She searched her mind for the word.

".. Handsome."
