A new year, a chance for a new start?

Beep! Beep! Beep!

A groan followed it, a youth rolling on what seems to be a bed as the mechanical beeping continued to emerge out of a small black box with the numbers 5:45 blinking upon its screen. Fuck..., the single thought came within the young boy's mind as he rose out of the mattress, swirls of thick cloth that seemed to be a blanket sliding off his massive frame. For a youth he's quite well-built; chiselled upper torso paired with a solid jaw line and hazel brown eyes made him look more like an Abercrombie model instead of the barely 18 year old highschool student that he was. Groaning once again he stood up from the bed, yawning as he ruffled the mop of dark black hair that covered his eyes. He took another glance at the clock, its 6:00.

Time enough for a quick workout...

The sound of bending steel pervated the room, creaking noises as the same boy punished himself with one more push of the metal bar. At each end of the pole he was grasping, five massive circular weights are attached, each inscribed with the number and the text '45 lbs'. One more push and the boy settled the barbell on his side, lifting it away from him as if it was nothing but made out of styrofoam. Sweat coated his upper body, chest glistening with beads of moisture as it rhythmically rose up and down with his breathing. "Done...", it was all he whispered as he made his way towards the stairs, obviously about to get ready for the next thing in his schedule...

School...

8:50 am...

"Oh my gah...it's him. It's Hiro!", a blonde bombshell whispered to another girl as that same youth walked into the entrance of what seems to be an educational establishment, judging from the lockers that lined up the walls that is. The crowd of students parted themselves as the boy passed by, this time draped with expensive brand name clothing and accessories from head to toe. He cleaned up pretty well, and judging from the infatuated gazes the females of the crowd are throwing at him they are noticing that fact too. But his eyes weren't looking at them, no, this boy was looking for someone else. God...where is she...?

A slender hand came out from under the thick heavy covers and pushed down on her alarm clock button. Everyday that same song woke her up and she never grew tired of listening to it. It was their song after all. Damnit...Time to wake up and get ready for teenage wasteland..,she thought. As the heavy folds of bed covers came off the young girls body, it revealed a slender, thin body that would have belonged to a model but yet was an eighteen year olds. Her long black hair fell down below her shoulders, and her bangs which fell down against her porcelain skin face. She swung her body to the side and slowly stood up. It was 7:00am. Time to get ready.

As she came out from the shower,she wrapped a towel around her slender body and came in front of the sink and the steam stained mirror. Her hand wiped away the steam that was on the mirror and saw her outkast face that was so hated in school. She was a beautiful girl no doubt about that but for that she was made into an outkast. She hung out with people known as the scene or emo groups of the school. Known for their partying attitudes and major emotional depression, but she was not that kind of girl whatsoever but with sterotypes in the school, that is what she became to all the upper class students of the school.

8:50am....

As Amelia entered the school, she saw the negative stares she got from some of the upper class students. She wore her signature black skinny jeans and pink tank top that showed off her body wonderfully. "Who does she think she is....",said a girl from one of the standing groups around the hallway. Her eyes glanced toward their direction and saw the bad stares that were given to her as she walked on. As she came upon her locker, noise was coming from the right side of the hallway, as if a celebrity was coming and her head turned to see what it was all about. It was him.....Hiro...All the girls and even the guys, hounded him like lost puppies and knew that any girl would chop off their right arm to be with him and every guy would do anything to be his friend. But she could never be in the picture. It could never be like before...

Dark brown eyes amidst a mess of dark black hair met another pair of dark eyes amongst the crowd. A soft smile spread across his lips as he recognized the eyes almost instantly. Amelia..., he obviously thought fondly of the girl who's name was Amelia, judging from the sweet smile on his lips. Inquisitive looks were thrown at the boy as he continued to stare at that one girl, the one with the large doe eyes hiding behind her dark bangs.

Slowly the crowd turned their eyes to whoever Hiro was looking at. And everyone was left silent when they all found out who it was. It was that weirdo...that creepy mascara-caked girl. They all wondered why an emo would be the fixation of the football king's attention. And right about now other girls are about to scratch each others' eyes out to find out the secret.

"Hey...", it was all Hiro murmured as a greeting to the girl as he approached her, slowly opening his arms as if to embrace her...

Amelia looked straight towards Hiro. His strong muscular arms coming towards her in an embrace but knew that if she returned it then people would just hate her even more. Just because she wasn't what they expected her to look like. The makeup and how she dressed wasn't up to their expectations at all, whatsoever. Her breathing was abit hard as she got nervous.

"Why is he going to her?", someone in the crowd shouted out.

"She is nothing but an emo freak", another voice said.

Amelia turned to see who might have said those awful things but knew she had to get used to it, for she would be living with this until she graduated from this teenage wasteland of a school. As soon as he came closer, paper balls were thrown at her.
She felt it hit her back and waist and saw the crumpled pieces of trash just fall to her feet. Her eyes looked at Hiro with an apologenic look with feelings of anger and hate mixed in.
Her feet started to move on their own accord and started running away from the crowd and from him.

Hiro watched her big beautiful eyes look at him...as if apologizing, right before she shuffled her feet and eventually turned around. To run away from him...? Huh?, it was the only thought that came to his mind as his eyes continued to follow Amelia while she ran from him. Slowly his arms that were outstretched to receive Amelia's small frame dropped to Hiro's side just like they were made out of lead.

Puzzlement turned into anger when his eyes caught the sight of something on the floor. Crumpled pieces of paper were on the spot where Amelia was standing. "Ok now who the hell threw paper at her...huh?!", he shouted at the crowd, who were all left silent and stunned as they embarassedly avoided Hiro's angry stare.

RINGGGG!!!!

The bell rang, signifying the start of the first class and already Hiro didn't have a great start of a first day in school. God damn it Amelia...I miss you...

As she continued to run down the hall,tears streamed down her cheeks. I wish you could hold me like old times...
Her hand pushed open the girls washroom and she quickly opened up the last stall and stood there as the tears came down her face slowly. The bell was heard ringing and she knew class had started. Great. She would be late on the first day of school. Amelia reached for some toilet paper and ripped off a piece. She sat there on the toilet trying to forget what had just happend and in the meantime dried her tears.

After 15min of sitting in the stall trying to collect herself and her emotions, she finally stood up and opened the stall door. Only to find some of the girls who had given her those rotten stares in the hallway.
Giggles were only heard and Amelia knew this was directed towards her. As they walked out of the washroom,the faint sound of the word "bitch" was heard.

Great 20 minutes late for class. Wonderful.

As she put her bag on her back,she took in a deep breath and headed for her first period. English.

He was already flipping through his textbook, the familiar musk of its old pages pervading Hiro's nose as he skimmed through the tiny text printed on its glossy papers. He was too engrossed at trying to rid himself of the disgusting memory of the first few minutes of his day that he didn't even notice someone walk in through the entrance of the classroom while the teacher was busy barking out instructions to the other students.

"You're late...Miss Amelia I presume?", the teacher said with a sharp tone, tapping her heals on the ground which caused Hiro to bring his eyes up to the front of the classroom.

A silly grin lit up his face as he looked at Amelia, standing there in front of the class as the teacher berated her for her lateness.

Slowly he raised a hand, interrupting the teacher so that he can interject a line of his. "Ummmm Ms. Belamy it's the first day of the year. Let the girl go, kay?", and just like that the teacher's face softened at the mere sight of Hiro, let alone his soothing voice.

The teacher indeed let Amelia go, without any further tirades from her as the girl walked away from her...

Even with the teachers, Hiro held a steadfast grip on them...

Amelia heard the sound of a guys voice interupt the teacher yelling and bashing her for being late. Even her teachers thought she was a problem just because of the way she looked and dressed herself every morning. As her head turned to see the boy who stood up for her, her eyes grew abit wide in surprise. Hiro..Thank you..

"I'm sorry Ms.Smith...I promise it shall not happen again",she said with her eyes darting to the floor.

Amelia felt the stares of her classmates and also the people that hated her. It was like being beaten but in front of your peers. As she took an empty seat that was in the back, far away from Hiro, she felt more alone in this classroom then she ever thought she would feel. The kindess in Hiro, however was something warm and lighthearted to feel.

But...

She couldn't just forget about what happend this summer and what she had seen with her own two green eyes. The very thing that broke her heart into a million shattered pieces.
Amelia didn't know if it could be repaired at this very moment or even at all..

His eyes never left Amelia, even when she finally took a seat far from where he was. He wanted to just stand up and take the empty seat beside her but already the teacher started talking once again.

Bummer...

With a short frown he cupped his chin with his left palm, lazily hunching his back as he leaned himself forward to dully try and integrate himself into the first lesson of the day.

Tick, tock, tick, tock...

The clock kept ticking as the final minutes before the first class of the day finished for Hiro and Amelia...

RING!!!!!!!

Off the bell went and happily all the students in the class responded to the sound by standing up from their seats and gathering up their belongings before they walk out of the room. Quickly Hiro did so, but instead of exiting the room just like everyone else he turned his eyes to Amelia, walking towards her direction instead with a gentle smile on his lips.

"Hey there beautiful...", he whispered as he approached the girl.

As the teacher finished up todays lesson on Hamlet,she quickly closed up her notebooks and placed them in her hello kitty back pack that she had always worn since ninth grade. As she finished packing up her things,she heard a gentle voice talking to her.
As her green eyes moved slowly to see who it was that was talking to her,she saw that it was Hiro. Her old friend Hiro.

"Hello...",she said quietly.

She wanted to talk to him badly, get back to their old times where no secret was hidden from each other and anything could be talked about. Nothing was ever to embaressing to talk about with each other. Then the memories of that fateful day where her heart had been broken came flooding back to her. It was a memory that she could never erase from her mind.
As she stood up from her seat, she started to walk by Hiro with not so much as a glance toward him and continued on her way to 2nd period. Math.
Maybe he didn't know what happend but she knew.

He couldn't understand why Amelia kept walking away from him and let alone ignoring on MSN and on his text messages since the past summer season but Hiro is not the one to give up quite easily. Slowly he regained control of himself, and instead of just watching the girl walk away from him he followed Amelia to wherever she is headed. Weaving easily through the crowd, who by the way once again parted a path for him through the halls, he caught up to Amelia. Very gently he grabbed the back of her upper arm. Trying to stop her on her tracks he gently whispered on her ear, something he always did when they were together all the time back in the day. Amelia always loved it when Hiro sweet talked her...

"Will you walk with me outside...please m'love?", very quickly, and very boldly for someone even of Hiro's popularity he kissed her earlobe. "Please...for old time's sake, spare me a few minutes Amelia?"

Amelia continued to walk away, pushing away at the people who tried to block her road and saw how people either laughed at her or just continued to talk about her behind her own back. As she continued to walk towards her second period class, she felt a hand grab her arm. Her feet stopped walking and she was about to turn to confront that person who had just stopped her.
As she turned,she felt the sweet breath of Hiro at her ear and neck.
Her heart beat much faster and she felt as if she would faint right at that very moment.
Hiro's voice was so sweet and comforting and she had always liked it when he sweet talked her.

The stares of everyone in the hallway could be felt, it was a hard feeling to captivate. Some girls were blushing at the sight of them together but most were angry and just up right furious.
As she was about to say something, she felt Hiro's soft lips kiss her earlobe. Her cheeks turned a light pink and her eyes locked with his.

"Yes..Of course..",she said in a whisper.

Amelia got out of his grasp and started leading him up to the rooftop.

He grinned, content that at least Amelia agreed to his request. But still Hiro couldn't help it but feel a tad bit dismayed when once again the girl moved out of his grasp. Why is she like this...?, he moved back a couple of steps behind the girl while following her to wherever she is leading him.

Soon Hiro recognized the path that Amelia was taking, it led to the rooftop of the school. A few more minutes he eventually saw the door that leads out. That was when Hiro decided to take the lead, opening it for Amelia like a gentleman would do for a lady.

When Amelia and him are finally outside and away from everyone, Hiro once again tried to make a bold move, sliding his arms around Amelia's waist from behind her to give her a gentle embrace. "I missed you terribly y'know..."

As they walked up the stairs to the rooftop, it was a quiet silence for abut 5 minutes as they made their way up the creeky wooden steps. As she stood at the door, she saw Hiro go up in front of her and put his hand on the doorknob and open the door for her.
The rooftop revealed just cement and trash that had been left by other students who came up here. Amelia came up here once in a while when she needed time to think and just deal with the drama that happend everyday in her eventful life here at school.

As she was about to turn to him,she felt his arms slip around her waist and felt the strong arms hold her like they used to. "Hiro..I don't think you should be doing this..If people saw us or..If your girlfriend saw..",she said.

It was hard to say that to him, knowing that she wanted this embrace. But the events of the summer could not be denied. Amelia had seen Hiro lock lips with another girl from this school and for her to see it herself it was just unbearable. Hiro knew she had feelings for him so why did he have to do this to her.

Why..

What she said left Hiro stunned. A pang of guilt stabbed him in the gut, though he doesn't know why he should feel guilty about anything though. "Amelia...can you just forget about everything for now and just be with me?", he whispered in reply, kissing the back of her neck as he gave Amelia's small frame a gentle squeeze with his arms.

"Why did you ignore me the whole summer my love...? Did you get tired of me?", Hiro whispered once more as he nuzzled his lips against her hair.

Amelia felt the cool sensation as his lips touched the back of her neck ever so slightly. Guilt filled up inside her as he said that to her. "Of course not Hiro...I would never get tired of you...Your the one I love..",she said. Tints of pink appeared on her cheeks.
His strong arms felt so wonderful around her waist and she loved every minute of this. But also Amelia couldn't just forget that day, it did break her heart after all.

"I didn't talk to you..because I thought you wouldn't want me, seeing how others have treated me here at this school",she said
